A new bridge is dedicated in Sunset Beach


Though the new $32 million Mannon C. Gore high-rise bridge isn’t quite ready to open to traffic, it got a proper christening and welcome, with state and local dignitaries in attendance at the Oct. 1 ceremony.
“It is a privilege to be here with you today as we honor Mr. Gore with the naming of this new bridge as the Mannon C. Gore Bridge,” said Michael Alford with the N.C. Board of Transportation.
Alford said they expect the new 65-foot-tall, half-mile span connecting the Sunset Beach mainland and island to be open in the next few weeks, at which time the bridge’s new signs will be installed.
